INTRODUCTION

English has become one of the wide spread world languages at present time. As the standard form of the English language the British English is taken. There are several variants where difference from the British standard is normalized. Besides its Irish and Scottish variants there are a lot of the regional variants and in addition Australian English, Canadian English and Indian English. Each of these has developed a literature of its own, and is characterized by peculiarities in phonetics, spelling, grammar and vocabulary. The topicality of the problem gave rise to the choice of the theme of our research: “Regional variants of the English language and their peculiarities”.

The object of the research are the branches of linguistic science – lexicology, theoretical phonetics, the History of the Englis Language.

The subject of the research is regional variants of the English language.

The aim of the research is to study theory of origin, evolution and classification of regional variants of the English language in order to analyze their use in English prose and compile a glossary.

The tasks of the research are:

- to study theory of origin, evolution and classification of regional variants of the English language and their definition;

- to determine the causes of regional difference of the English language;

- to compile the glossary of the words, peculiar for every studied dialect

- to analyze their use in English works of literature.

The scientific novelty is in compilation of the glossary and the analysis of their use in English literary works.

The practical significance of the research is that the results of the investigation can be used in training specialists in course of Lexicology and Theoretical phonetics and as well the information could be useful for those who plan to have business in English speaking countries and need to know accents of those regions.

Methods of research. The basic methods of research is descriptive, based on such research methods as survey, comparison, generalization and classification. To the analysis of the received data the quantitative technique, the component and contextual analysis have been applied as well.

The source basis of the senior thesis consists mainly of research of the foreign and domestic authors found by means of searching sites of the Internet and also analyses of works of some researchers published in periodicals.

Main positions born on protection:

  1. The comparative analysis of the phonetic system of the regional varieties of English pronunciation shows the differences in the pronunciation in the system of consonant and vowel phonemes.
  2. The comparative analysis of the grammar presents the difference between the standard language and the English dialects.

The hypothesis of the senior thesis is that spoken language is not constant and unchangeable phenomenon comparing with standard written language.

The structure of the work: This thesis consists of the introduction, two parts (theoretical and practical), two summaries to the parts, conclusion, bibliography and Appendix. 

The purpose of the seniour thesis, the object and subject of the research, the aim, the tasks, scientific novelty and practical significance of the work, methods of research are considered in Introduction.

The main theoretical concepts, definitions and classification of regional variants of the English language, phonetic and grammar distinctions are considered in the theoretical part of our senior thesis.

Analysis of the use of regional variants of the English language in the poems of the English poets and compiled sample glossary are given in the practical part of our research work.

In conclusion main concepts of the thesis are resumed.

The bibliography numbers 37 referenced sources and 20 additional ones that include works of well-known Russian, Kazakh and foreign scholars as well articles from scientific journals.
